WEEKEND WRITING WARRIORS #66

I am so glad this week is over, fellow writers. Thank goodness for pain killers and  muscle relaxants! Who knew you could get a charlie horse in your diaphragm. Believe me when I tell you that you DON'T want to have that happen.

Onto our next vignette. We left off with Mary joining Mr. Camden, Mr. Lucas and Miss Talbot for a game of cards. Although I don't mention this, they are playing whist, a game I've played since I was a eight.

About to start the game, Colonel Fitzwilliam appeared beside Mr. Camden, leaned in and whispered something in his ear. Startled by whatever news the Colonel had imparted, Mr. Camden stood and excused himself.
"Shall I take Mr. Camden's spot, seeing as he has been called elsewhere?"
Without waiting for an answer, the Colonel dropped into the vacated chair across from Mary.
"What has called Mr. Camden away?" Miss Talbot asked.
"It appears his horse has somehow escaped its stall - quite the mystery. He's gone to help the stable master find the beast."
"Oh dear, I do hope there are no horse thieves in the area," Mary said, wondering if she should alert her father to the possibility of a horse thief terrorizing the residents of Meryton.
"No fear, Miss Bennet, I'm sure the animal is close by. It may be something as simple as an improperly closed latch and the horse has found greener pastures to graze on."
Hmmm.... I think the mystery of where Colonel Fitzwilliam disappeared might have been solved. Will the other guests come to the same conclusion?

Never knew you could get a 'charlie horse' in your diaphragm! Glad you are feeling better. Yes, I think we all know how Mr. Camden's horse got out!

    1. At the time the pain was excruciating - and I have a HIGH pain tolerance. I must admit, this is the only time I've ever considered calling 911. I could feel the muscles rippling across my ribs and because the diaphragm was spasming, I couldn't catch a breath, which was frightening because, as humans, we DO need to breathe. The severe pain lasted for about four hours and any movement for the next sixteen hours resulted in me gasping for breath again (yes, I know. I SHOULD have gone to the hospital, but I'm a stubborn sod). Fortunately, I have some heavy duty pain killers and a few muscle relaxants from a previous back injury, so I picked a spot on the couch and didn't move except to relieve myself for four days. My ribs still feel like they moved. They grind a bit if I move a certain way. Those muscle spasms were HARD.
BTW - Thank you for stopping by, my friend.

    1. Not a clue as to why the pain. I was sitting at my desk and it hit me with no warning. I have to admit - it kinda scared me. Thanks for stopping by.

  6. Hm, sounds like one of those "likely stories." A diaphragm charlie horse sounds excruciating- hope you're feeling better!

  7. I like Veronica's interpretation (assuming I understand it right); that the colonel made up a story to remove his rival from the scene.
As for your pain, that sounds horrible. You're reminded of it with every breath.

  13. The horse is probably fine... but still rude of him to let it out.

  14. I'm sure the horse is fine. The Colonel, however, had better hope no one guesses what he did. Or why. Great snippet!

  15. Oh, a latch just happened to be open and the horse ventured out... lol I can guess how that happened. :)
