“Is there nobody who can love Georgiana for who she is and not for money?” The colonel flopped back into his chair. “How many fortune hunters need we fight off?”
Darcy cut a sharp glance at his cousin and the colonel abruptly quit speaking although Max was quite sure he still fumed silently. He finished his drink and stood.
“I must be off, Mother has opened Kerr House to receive visitors and demanded I make an appearance to lend support to Caroline and Catherine against would be vipers.”
“Should I enlist your aid for Elizabeth and Georgiana?” Darcy asked as he rang for a footman.
“I defy anyone to slander your wife and sister, Lady Matlock would have them for breakfast and spit out the bones. You forget, I’ve seen the Colonel’s mother at work.”

Oh, I suspect you'll throw in Georgianna's path a disinterested fellow. Not disinterested for long, of course.
ReplyDeleteHe is so VERY disinterested... Thanks for popping by today, Ed
DeletePoor Georgianna indeed but you're on the case so it should turn out well. Great snippet!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Veronica. Georgiana is a lesson that money does NOT buy happiness.
DeleteYou have touched families in a strong way!
ReplyDeleteI love reading stories that have families involved. My struggle is to NOT bog the story down with things that don't move it forward. Thank you for stopping by.
Delete"Lady Matlock would have them for breakfast and spit out the bones." Sounds like my kind of lady!
ReplyDeleteMine, too, Amy.
DeleteShe is formidable. Thank you for visiting today.
DeleteOh my, the trials women with a dowry go through. At least she has someone looking out for her, not grabbing the first suitor--to marry her off to. :-) Wonderful writing!
ReplyDeleteFor affairs of the heart, sometimes having no money is a blessing. At least you know the person sticks with you because of love, if nothing else. Thanks for stopping by.
DeletePoor Georgiana. To be loved for herself and not for her money. Good job portraying those who care about her.
ReplyDeleteDarcy and the Colonel can only hope Georgiana makes a good match, and then they no longer have to worry about her... or will they?????
DeleteI hope Georgiana finds someone to love her for her and not her money. It looks like someone is at least looking out for her.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed the snippet.
Well.... there has to be a black moment in the story and because I'm an author I've decided to give poor Georgiana at least three. Everybody will love the hero / hate the hero / hurt for the hero/ love the hero, and Georgiana will go along with the reader in this ride.
DeleteHave we just met that someone? Love the dialog here! Bones, indeed. Gotta respect a protective mama!
ReplyDeleteWe absolutely have met that someone...
DeleteI enjoyed reading this story very much. Thanks!
